Augur apply AI to legacy CCTV infrastructure — transforming passive camera networks into intelligent, proactive safety systems. I joined as the founding product designer, responsible for shaping the end-to-end user experience of their SaaS platform.

The problem

CCTV depends too heavily on human attention

Traditional closed-circuit television operators must continuously monitor live footage and manually review hours of recordings when an incident occurs. This is slow, expensive, reactive, and prone to human error. Critical footage gets periodically deleted. Events go undetected or unresolved.

Augur's AI removes that bottleneck — automatically detecting people, events, and behavioural patterns in real time, so operators can focus on response rather than surveillance.

My role

End-to-end design across research, strategy, and execution

My remit covered everything from initial discovery to the final interface — understanding the problem space, aligning the team on strategy, and then designing the full user experience and UI of a SaaS platform built on top of an existing proof of concept, incorporating a newly developed brand identity.

Getting the team aligned

After handling an immediate design challenge in week one ahead of a client presentation, I moved into structured onboarding and facilitated an internal workshop to establish shared foundations. Together, we mapped out what we were building, why, and for whom — including goals, success metrics, risks, opportunities, and the spaces where the technology could be applied.

From there, we defined our distinct user types and their primary jobs to be done — the groundwork for everything that followed.

From user stories to sketches to system

With research in hand, I moved through user stories, journeys, and flows before touching any visual design. I worked through information architecture — sorting and grouping content — then produced hand-drawn wireframes across a range of features and screens. Seven distinct structural approaches for the platform were sketched out and critiqued as a team, weighing the trade-offs of each.

Multiple interviews with security professionals shaped our major design decisions — from terminology and hierarchy to how notifications surface and how spaces are navigated.

The resulting platform is a leasable SaaS product suited to clients ranging from small business owners and commercial landlords to transport networks, intelligence agencies, and governments — enabling proactive crime prevention and measurably safer public spaces.
